Abstract

Considering the fact that in Central Dalmatia, during the tourist season, forest fires occur very frequently causing catastrophic damages on the environment, influencing tourism and other industries. This paper will demonstrate how using GIS tools can make a analysis of existing data to assess vulnerability from fire in the Splitsko-Dalmatinska County. The collected data that affect the occurrence of a open fire include climatic (temperature), topography (aspect, slope), vegetation (CORINE Land Cover, NDVI) and anthropogenic (roads, railways, transmission line, settlements) factors. The article shows how to use ArcView GIS software in order to improve preventive measures. They are necessary due to the large amount of fire that occur in this area during the summer months.
