Abstract

Crikvenica is, together with Opatija, Kvarner oldest tourist destination. The combination of natural, social and cultural factors has resulted in the early development of the tourism from the late 19th century. Passing through several stages of development, the full expansion of tourism experiences since 1960. Since then, his influence on the transformation of the spatial structure of Crikvenica is most evident. Positive and negative impacts of tourism on the functional-spatial, socio-spatial and morphological structure of the settlement have been determined. Most visible changes in the spatial structure under the influence of tourism are: changes in land use, changes in employment by sector of activity, strong apartmanization and visual pollution of Crikvenica.
