This thesis presents the results of research on the changes of population on the Island of Krk from the mid 19th century until the present day, based on the GIS-analysis. Using several GIS methods (e.g. Mean Center and Standard Deviational Ellipse) and a spatial analysis of basic demographic characteristics of settlements on the Island of Krk, it has been attempted to identify and clarify the geographical distribution of settlements and spatial changes of the population, as well as some of the natural and social characteristics and processes that caused those changes. To this aim the GIS database was used that consists of the relevant atributive data (demographic data that is processed at settlement level, natural and social elements significant for the evolution and changes of the population of the Island of Krk), which in a ArcGIS software ”are getting“ a spatial component. The detailed analysis of this thesis resulted in the following most important conclusions: movement of the total population is in correlation with the population trends of the town Rijeka; settlements that are closer to the roads of higher importance have more favourable demographic indicators; different socio-economic factors and processes have resulted in a moving of the mean centre of population of the island from the mid 19th century until today in the northwest, and in accordance with that the ellipse of the population in the year 2011 is laid northern than in the year 1857; the coastal settlements have more positive demographic indicators than settlements in the interior of the island.
