Abstract

In the military terrain analysis, the application of geomorphology exploration, which is based on GIS methodology of spatial analysis, is primarily related with military evaluation of a geographic area. The analysis of the terrain is based on determining features of cover and mobility of the observed area using standard military procedure OCOKA (O - Observation and Fields of Fire, C - Cover and Concealment, O – Obstacles, K - Key Terrain, A – Avenues of Approach). This analysis was conducted on an area in the sheet of a topographic map Čakovec 4616-2-2-2 and included determining weighted relief categories in relation with cover and mobility with the aim of determining the degree of protection and mobility of a certain terrain. The defined model included twelve parameters of the terrain in observed area: visibility, field of fire, slope aspect, relief forms and the density of valley networks for cover analysis and slope, soil composition, drainage system, vegetation cover, average precipitation and cultural features for the analysis of mobility. Based on a set model, parameters were calculated and produced were maps of potential protection and mobility of the observed area.
