Abstract

The aim of this work is to give a review of historical geographical development of Catalonia and Castile, explain relations between them, explain social, political and economic development of this two regions and emphasize their importance in a modern Spanish state. The paper discusses about traditional and modern regionalization of Spain, and puts bigger accent on Catalonia and Castile. Relations between them are shown through the historical development of these regions, with bigger emphasis on Catalonia. Historical development is based on social, political and economic relations and on national question. Important organizations, parties, governments and important persons are discussed here. It explains that the economic power is in Catalonia and political in Castile. National identity of Catalonia is based on physical geography and socio-historical characteristics, on which Catalonia developed her language, economy, politics and culture that distinguishes her from Castile.
