The aim of this work is to define socioeconomic urban region of Dubrovnik and transformation of its area during the history. Using the results of 2001 Census and Model of identifying urban regions, socioeconomic urban region of Dubrovnik was defined, consisting of Dubrovnik as central city and 58 environ settlements with specific level of socioeconomic transformation. Dubrovnik environ has extremely level of deagrarization and strong functional connection with Dubrovnik, in view of workers commuting from environ to city. Main and largest changes in environ occured after the Second World War. Since the 1960s, economic development of Dubrovnik is based on the tertiary economic sector, first of all catering and tourism. Work function growth in this sector stimulated environ transformation: socioeconomic and demographic first, then functional and physiognomic. Part of population from environ employ in Dubrovnik and settle permanently. Until the 1980s, main characteristic of the Dubrovnik urban region was polarisation, with Dubrovnik as pole. Since the 1980s environ transformation expires in view of functional and physiognomic transformation, which results in increasing number of contents and population growth in environ.
