Abstract

This paper presents the social and economic development in region of Međimurje in the second half of 20th century. The aim of the paper is to show the processes of demographic and economic circumstances that have taken place in Međimurje and explain why came to demographic and economic changes and to present the causes that influenced the socio-economic developments and the consequences arising out of such developments. Meimurje is the historical and geographical region, administratively included in one of twenty-one local (regional) self-governments of the Republic of Croatia, Međimurje County. Međimurje was matured from undeveloped agricultural region to a higher degree of demographic and economic development, primarily due to work and moving abroad its inhabitants who have continuously invested in their region. Međimurje is very dynamic region in all aspects of public, social and economic lives and the best equipped Croatian communal space.
