Development strategies of cities around the world are increasingly placing emphasis on developing bicycle traffic in spatial planning, as one of the possible solutions for excessive motorization and individualization of traffic. Solving these matters through developing alternative modes of transport is gaining ground as a subject in development strategies in Zagreb, and increasing the share of bicycle traffic in the city is one of the paramount goals. The main issues of bicycle traffic in Zagreb include a lack of a strategy for developing bicycle traffic, an underdeveloped and insufficiently connected cycling infrastructure, impractical and hazardous cycling lanes and paths, and bicycle traffic making up a small share of overall traffic. The aim of this thesis is to indicate the main issues and weak points, as well as opportunities for further developing bicycle traffic by studying the current state of bicycle traffic in Zagreb. Furthermore, through analyzing the preconditions, the thesis draws attention to the measures that have been suggested, undertaken, or have yet to be undertaken to achieve set goals of the Development Strategy of the city of Zagreb that concern increasing the percentage of bicycle traffic within overall traffic.
