The thesis presents the results of a survey research on the quality of life of residents in the municipality of Gornja Rijeka. The field study was conducted during November and December 2012 on a sample of 178 respondents aged over 18. Via subjective evaluation of six offered domains of the quality of life a general picture of the quality of life of the respondents has been created. The conducted research shows a high level of satisfaction of the respondents with the life in the rural area, and the majority of the respondents evaluates the personal quality of life as good, regardless of the presence of a disease. A large part of the young respondents expresses the intention to leave the rural area. As the main reasons they adduce better living conditions and the lack of employment. On the other hand, the respondents recognize the advantages of living in the countryside. Preserved nature, clean air and lower cost of living are just some of the qualities that adorn rural areas.
