Abstract

Antiquity, especially from roman period, had left many traces in Croatia, mainly in coastal area, which was more significant in that period. This thesis mainly deals with theoretical assumptions of Greek and Roman cities, their morphological and functional characteristics – orthogonal planimetry, connections between city and agricultural hinterland, and influence of geographical factors on antique urbanization and colonization. This paper also gives overview of some significant antique cities in Croatian coastal area.
