Abstract

This paper presents the characteristics of the suburbanization in Zagreb surroundings with a special emphasis on Brdovec municipality. Results are based on analysis of statistical publications and questionnaire survey, using the snowball method. Research shows that Brdovec municipality is representative example of suburbanization in the Zagreb urban region. Suburbanisation manifests itself in the form of immigration and the commuting circulation of the employed population. Suburbanization in Brdovec municipality characterized by the pronounced increase in the number of residents in the census period 1991. to 2011. and strong dependence on Zagreb. The main reasons for immigration to the Brdovec municipality are comfortable environment and marriage. The biggest advantage of living in a suburban area is quality environment, and main disadvantage is lack of communal infrastructure.
