In Vukovar–Srijem County, between the Sava and Danube rivers, in the area of Bosut river and its confluents Spačva, Lubnja and Brežnica there lies the biggest forest of pendunculate oak (Quercus robur L.), known by the name of Spačva. With the area of 40.000 ha, it is the biggest in Croatia, and pendunculate oak accounts for one tenth of all forests in Croatia. The aim of this thesis is to determine the influence that Spačvanski bazen has on economy through depiction of ecological-geographical and economic-geographical value of Spačvanski bazen in Vukovar–Srijem County. The forests of Spačvanski bazen and the wood industry based on it are the main drive of economic development in Vukovar–Srijem County, which has been made possible with successful management of the forests in that area throughout the history. Forestry and wood processing have been made to turn to mutual cooperation which should result with the optimization of capacities in the primary processing segment, increasing production, overall revenue and employment. The common task of both sectors is to strengthen economic capacity in accordance with the guidelines of sustainable development, as well as following trends and requirements of European market at the same time.
