Signal crayfish is one of the most successful invasive non-indigenous species of freshwater ecosystems due to the high population density which it can achieve, its rapid spreading and noticeable negative impact on indigenous populations of crayfish. In addition to indigenous populations of crayfish, it has a negative impact on other species, as well as the structure and characteristics of freshwater ecosystems. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of density and intraspecific competition on the growth rate of juvenile individuals of signal crayfish. The conducted laboratory studies have shown that the density of individuals is inversely proportional to the growth of individuals. Although the incidence of claw injuries (an indirect indicator of the intensity of competition) was not statistically significantly different among the tanks with different densities of individuals, an increasing trend of claw injury was noted in the tank with the greatest density of individuals. Contrary to expectations, comparisons of mortality among tanks with different densities of individuals showed no statistically significant differences among the mortality of individuals in the tanks. The collected data will be used to determine the optimal control methods of this species in the Mura River.
