The investigation of zooplankton migrations was conducted during the spring and summer period in two shallow lakes of different trophic states and transparencies. The main objectives of this study were to analyze: (i) the limnological factors; (ii) the abundance of zooplankton in the horizontal and vertical distribution; (iii) the influence of abiotic and biotic factors on migration of zooplankton in shallow lakes. Survey results indicated a significantly higher value of phytoplankton biomass and trophic state index in the less transparent shallow lake, characterized by homogeneous distribution of zooplankton in the horizontal and the vertical profile, which indicated weak predation pressure of visual predators. In the lake of higher transparency, abundance of planktonic crustaceans Cladocera and Copepoda significantly differed in the horizontal and vertical distribution indicating their migrations to less illuminated, deeper layers of the pelagic zone indicating on visual predators pressure.
