Abstract

Demonstration experiments can have multiple roles in the teaching of physics at all levels. As well as they help in the understanding of basic physical laws, used appropriately they develop critical thinking and explorative spirit, and often creativity. This paper shows that the experiments do not have to be complex and demanding, simple one that uses objects of daily use can be very interesting. Such simple experiments encourage pupils to continue to explore the laws of physics even and at home. This paper highlights the key role of demonstration experiments in physics. The idea is to present teachers opportunities of simple experiments in a narrow field of physics. Hydrostatics, which this paper deals, is one of the areas of physics, which is ideal for the application of simple demonstration experiments. The paper presents a demonstration experiments from hydrostatics adapted to primary school children. They are designed so that pupils can do themselves at home, or they can be prepared for group work in school. Questions and tasks after each group of related experiments lead pupils through experiments and understanding of physical concepts that are observed.
