Abstract

The analysis and presentation of data obtained through high-throughput methods such as microarrays are the focus of bioinformatics. The reasons are multiple. The high-throughput methods produce a lot of information about the presence, level of expression and interaction of elements of biological system as a whole (e.g. cells). Analysis of individual elements of this system is very complex and often impossible. To analyse this data and assign biological meaning to these data one has to possess knowledge of bioinformatics and statistics. The existence of many databases that store different data for individual genes further complicates the analysis. Therefore, our bioinformatics group has developed MADNet, a tool which presents experimental results in a visually simple manner and does not require in-depth knowledge of bioinformatics and statistics. MADNet integrates information from various databases: NCBI, KEGG, TRANSFAC, DrugBank and EBI IntAct. This work additionally expanded MADNet's functionality with time-series analysis. Now, for each gene of interest, one can make track and compare changes in expression across same pathway over course of time, as well as changes that occur in expression of other genes connected to the gene of interest.
