Abstract

The thesis presents the analysis of the theoretical approach toward the informal housing problem, then development of housing estates in Split after World War II, and the core part focuses on the presentation of the results of survey research on informal housing in Split, i.e. its city district Sirobuja. The field study was conducted during April 2014 on a sample of 70 respondents aged over 18. The research describes the characteristics of the population, their attitude toward informal housing and characteristics of the housing stock. The local population is satisfied with quality of life in their estate, in spite of poorer infrastructure equipment, but also recognize the negative aspects of such construction.
