Abstract

Paleontological nature monuments of central Croatia are neanderthal site of Krapina on Hušnjak hill, Vindija cave and Velika or Mačkova cave. They are significant as neanderthals sites and locations where are found neanderthal artefacts and other remains, like animal residues who dwelted in the caves, or were neanderthal prey. Besides neanderthals in Vindija cave, who are one of the youngest in Europe, the remains of modern human are also found there, which means that they co – lived a certain period of time with neandethals. Beside neanderthal site on Hušnjak hill, which became an important touristic site because very modern museum of Krapina neanderthal was built, Vindija cave and Mačkova cave in spite of great touristic potential, still do not have the possibility, at least for now, to be important touristic sites in continental Croatia. It is necessary to create brochures, regulate paths to the sites and present them in an engaging way.
