In extracts of Centaurea rupestris L. flowers and leaves, the presence of flavonoids has already been proven. Those extracts, along with the flavonoid kvercetagetin 3'-methyl-7-O-β-D-glucopyranosid, which was isolated from flowers of C. rupestris, have demonstrated the antiviral activity against Tomato bushy stunt virus (TBSV). In this paper the content of flavonoids was spectrophotometrically determined in tissues of C. rupestris propagated in vitro, on medium supplemented with different concentrations of nutrients and plant growth regulators. The content of flavonoids measured in tissues grown in vitro was lower than the flavonoid content in flowers and leaves of naturally-growing plants. The antiviral activity of extracts from in vitro grown tissues against TBSV was confirmed, but it was weaker than the antiviral activity of flower extract.
