Abstract

This master thesis analyzes demographic development of Livno municipality after 1991. Livno municipality is located in the western part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and it includes 59 settlements. Based on the statistical data from Federal Statistical Office and the parish-registers it can be concluded that the municipality is characterized by two fundamental demographic processes - depopulation and population aging. They are the result of the war, the unstable political and economic conditions, declining share of fertile age population and emigration in economically stable regions. It is assumed that negative trends regarding population in the municipality will continue in the future, despite the great wealth of natural resources. Also, the proposed measures for revival of the overall situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina can not be carried out successfully. In conclusion, the municipality of Livno is going to experience significant reduction in population number in the next few decades.
