Abstract

The polymorphism of HLA-A, -B and -DRB1 loci, and TNFa, TNFb and TNFd microsatellites was investigated in this study among 35 donor-recipient pairs in unrelated liver transplantation program. Episodes of acute rejection were observed for 29 patients, while six patients did not demonstrate acute rejection. Obtained results were compared with results of control group (200 healthy, unrelated subjects). HLA specificities were determined using the PCR-SSP (Polymerase Chain Reaction-Sequence Specific Primers) molecular method, while the determination of alleles at TNF microsatellites was performed by PCR-STR (Short Tandem Repeats) method. No statistically significant difference in the distribution of HLA specificities between controls and patients was observed. A statistically significant increase of TNFa5 allele's frequency was shown among patients when compared to controls. No difference in number of HLA and TNF mismatches between patients with and patients without acute liver rejection was observed.
