Abstract

Selective forms of tourism in Croatian rural areas, particulary in the area of Istria County recorded more intense development in the last fifteen years. Istria has a long tradition of winemaking and viticulture and she is one of the most developed tourist destination in Croatia. Thatʼs why Istria has excellent preconditions for the development of wine tourism. In the first part of the thesis the focus is on the concept and development of wine tourism, with special emphasis on the basic factors of its development. The central part shows the current state and prospects of wine tourism in Istria, starting from the hypothesis that wine tourism has become an integrated part of the tourism offer in Istria and one of the factors for the development of its rural areas. Analysis of existing data and survey results shows that wine has become an important element in recognition of Istria as a tourist destination and one of the motivating factors for large number of tourists for visiting. The last part of this thesi presents the potentional and possible directions for future development of wine tourism in Istria Region.
