Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyse herbarium specimens of taxa of the genus Centaurea L. in the Herbarium Ivo and Marija Horvat (ZAHO). The sample on which analysis was carried out consisted of 742 herbarium speciments, out of which 510 were collected in Croatia, and 232 outside of borders of Croatia. With taxonomic revision in herbarium ZAHO, it was established the existence of 45 taxa deliminated in seven subgenera of genus Centaurea. The most abundant subgenus is Lopholoma with 240 herbarium specimens (according to the older taxonomic classification) and Centaurea s. s. with 273 specimens (according to the newer classification). Nomenclature revision showed up that 40 taxa have valid names. Dynamics of collecting herbarium specimens was the most intensive from 1920 to 1935. The data are integrated into the Flora Croatica Database and distribution maps for croatian taxa were produced. Chorology of taxa outside of Croatia is represented with a list of localities.
