Abstract

One of the most efficient methods for studying bird migrations is scientific bird ringing. It is based on individual marking of wild birds using rings. On each ring unique combination of letters and numbers is used. According to data of the Institute of Ornithology at the Croatia Academy of Sciences and Arts, in the period from January 1991 to March 2011 629 ringed individuals of Mute Swan (Cygnus olor, Gmelin) was found in Croatia. Three hundred and sixty two different individuals was found in 12 European countries: Hungary, Austria, Slovenija, Poland, Chech Republic, Slovakia, Serbia, Germany, Italy, Belaruss, Ukrain and Denmark. Most of these birds were migrating along coasts of European rivers or lakes.
