Abstract

Phytoplasma-infected and healthy grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) was treated foliary with indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) in concentrations of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 g/vine. Presence of the phytoplasma gene for 16S rRNA before and after the treatment was determined by nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Oxidative stress markers were measured to reveal whether reactive oxygen species affect phytoplasma-recovery in grapevine. PCR results confirmed the presence of phytoplasma in only three of sixteen samples, that were previously confirmed as phytoplasma infected. IBA (1.0 g/vine) caused a rise in hydrogen peroxide, while lipid peroxidation and phenolic content was not significant changed after treatments. Peroxidase activity increased three months after the treatment with IBA, but not immediately after the treatment. Obtained results indicate that IBA may act on specific indicators of oxidative stress which could be correlated with the phytoplasma-recovery in grapevine, but the interpretation of the results is complex and further research is required.
