Abstract

The field part of this research was conducted from May till October 2009. in the area of the Savica lakes. The objectives were to determine dragonfly fauna and their distribution which would in combination with future studies give valuable information about the changes in fauna and ecological conditions of this area. Only the imago of dragonflies were collected, part of which was preserved in 70% alcohol. There was a total of 12 determined species, from which 6 species belonged to the most representative family of dragonflies in Europe, Libellulidae. Zoogeographical analysis showed the greatest impact of holomediterranean element. Water quality, determined by the bioindicator qualities of the order of dragonflies, was of the 2nd degree or oligosaprobic to beta-mezosaprobic degree of pollution. For a complete determination of dragonfly fauna of this area further detailed studies should be conducted, during a longer period of time which would include larvae and sheds as well as dragonfly imago.
