Abstract

The aim of research was to explore the genotoxic impact of carbofouran pesticide (2,3-dihydro-2,2- dimethyl-7-benzofuranol methylcarbamate) and its formulation Geocid ST 35 (350g/l) by alkali comet assay usage on four organs´ cells of mice strain swiss albino in conditions in vivo. The genotoxic evaluation was made on kidney, liver, bone marrow cells and leukocytes using two comet assay parameters: tail length and tail intensity. During fourteen day period, four groups of animals were treated by carbofouran and Geocid ST 35 with an active substance doses in values of ADI i 1/100LD50 and were compared with the control group. Both active supstance and formulation have shown damage intensity proportional to pesticide doses. Kidney, liver and bone marrow cells have shown similar DNA damage while genom level was slightly lower in leukocytes. Based on given results it can be concluded that carbofuran and Geocid ST 35 have genotoxic effect on all treated murine organs, but niether carbofuran nor its formulation have shown specificy of genotoxic effect on niether of organs. Demage detected in all organ cells exept lukocytes is a result of both carbofuran genotoxity impact and physiological proceses in those tissues.
