Abstract

Viral infections can result in increased synthesis of polyphenolic compounds in infected plants. This paper investigates the effect of turnip yellow mosaic virus infection on total phenol, tannins and total flavonoids synthesis in infected species Brassica rapa L. and Brassica pekinensis Rupr. Those compounds show many biologycal effects including antiviral activity. Phenolic compounds participate in induced deffence responce in plants. This research showed corelation between development of viral infection and polyphenol synthesis that manifests in increased concentration of studied compounds in infected plants in relation to healthy, uninfected plants in a stage of fully developt infection.
