Immunohistochemical expression of E-cadherin, N-cadherin and beta-catenin in oncocytoma, chromophobe and clear cell renal carcinoma

Abstract

The recent studies have demonstrated that the expression of the cell adhesion molecules in some tumors is of the crucial importance in cancer invasion. The hypothesis of this study was that the oncocytomas and renal cell carcinomas (chromophobe and clear cell type) have different immunohistochemical expression of E-cadherin, N-cadherin and beta-catenin. The objective of this research was to determinate and compare immunohistochemical expression of E-cadherin, N-cadherin and beta-cathenin in kidney tissues, oncocytomas and renal cell carcinomas (chromophobe and clear cell type). In the research we used the archival paraffin blocks of 29 oncocytomas, 31 chromophobe and 42 clear cell renal carcinomas with non-neoplastic peripheral kidney tissue. All tested molecules of cadherin-catenin complex statistically showed significant differences among the groups but none of the molecules did not showed individual prognostic significance. Different and partly contrary results of many researches are interesting and still need to be clarified by additional research to find out role and meaning of these molecules in tumor’ s development and progression.
