This thesis aims to examine the applicability of the classification of relief forms based on digital elevation models in geomorphological mapping. The thesis will test the Topographic Position Index-TPI method. This method classifies the cells of a raster based on their position into relief forms. The TPI method is applied with the extension that is compatible with ArcGIS 10 system. In the geomorphological area of the mountain range Ćićarija and Uĉka, ridges and valleys are classified based on DEM cell values. In order to compare the results, based on the contours from topographic maps in scale of 1:25000, cliffs and valleys are drawn out. Furthermore, based on DEM using hydrological functions valleys and ridges are derived. Analyzing all the parameters and types of classification available in the TPI method, this thesis shows advantages and disadvantages for different relief types and analysis. For all the digital analyses computed in this thesis ArcGIS 10 system was used.
