Abstract

Content of micro- and macroelements by Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry, total phenolic compounds, total tannins and total flavonoids (spectrophotometric) in pulp and peel 4 different categories of fruit, bark and seeds of the rowan tree (Sorbus domestica L.) was investigated. The antioxidant efficiency (DPPH and ABTS) of total phenols and total tannins was determined. The results of determination of micro- and macroelements showed that the rowan tree is good source of most of the analyzed macro- and individual microelements. Iron and zinc (bark) are the richest microelements in all samples. Potassium is the most abudant macroelement in all samples except bark (calcium). Immature fruits are the richest with total phenols and bark, and they are also richer in these compounds from pulp and peel of five different varieties of apple. The content of total tannins is equal in all parts of the rowan tree. Based on the observation and significant correlation between the content of total phenols and antioxidant efficiency results it can be concluded that total phenols are meritorious for the antioxidant activity patterns of rowan tree.
