Abstract

Owing to their outstanding capability to keep their bodies warm in very cold weather or to cool themselves off in hot periods, combined with delicate processes of maintaining the ballance of energy and water, the mammals have succeeded in conforming to and colonizing amlost every part of the world. Keeping their body temperature constant is energetically very demanding process, which requires constant food provision, i. e. energy production. Although it is energetically very „expensive“ we can see that it's worth while. From the ice-shackled regions to the high-heated deserts the mammals have, due to their adaptability, mastered the world.
