Abstract

A. orbicularis is endemic species with a very limited area of distribution. Its only officialy known in Croatia from habitats inside canyon of Velika and Mala Paklenica and nowhere else in the world. It is a member of Caryophyllaceae family, which members are distributed nearly all over the globe. A short review of distribution of the species is presented in this work. It is necessary to mention that the species grows along the whole canyon lenght in small groups, but the two most significant localities were chosen to describe. The rocks on which the species grows are also the climbing routes. This area of Natiopnal park is recognized as „Recreation and touristic infrastructure zone“, which means that the population of A.orbicularis is directly exposed to over 100 000 visitors per year, and 30% of that number are climbers. It would be useful to educate the visitors of National park on importance of this taxa, as well as performe concrete conservation activities in situ.
