This thesis presents the research results of highway construction impact on territorial cohesion of Adriatic Croatia from the year 2001. till year 2011. Focus of research are two spatial levels: counties (Istarska, Primorsko-goranska, Ličko-senjska, Zadarska, Šibenska i Splitsko-dalmatinska) and six settlements – case studies (Galižana, Vrbovsko, Otočac, Gospić, Korenica i Dugopolje). Research has shown that highway construction had spatialy differentiated effect. Highway construction has led to increase of employment, directly in construction sector and indirectly in functional development of city centers; construction created conditions for the development of enterprise zones, which are one of the instruments for the boost of economic development on regional and local level. Main negative consequence of highway commission is impact on traffic rerouting and reduced traffic intensity on state road which connects Zagreb and Adriatic macroregional centers, with negative consequence for development and settlement structure in east Lika and Gorski Kotar region.
