Abstract

The research area is the island of St.Gregory which is situated on the North side of the Adriatic sea, near the island of Rab. Samples of carbonate rocks of Mesozoic and Cenozoic age were collected during the field research. The rocks were processed in the laboratory, and by micropaleontological methods and microfacies analysis, microfossil assemblages and depositional environments were found. It was established that the yellowish-white and white rudist limestones, and grey limestones with planctonic Foraminiferas belong to the Cenomanian-Turonian age; Foraminiferal limestones to the lower to middle Eocene; breccias to the Tertiary and bauxites were created during the Post-Cretaceous emersion. The rocks were deposited on the Adriatic Carbonate Platform. Typical rocks were defined, a geologic trail was organized, and descriptive boards for educative geological trail on the island of St.Gregory were designed. The geologic trail St.Gregory will be a part of the geopark of the island of Rab.
