Abstract

Corals are the largest class in the knee Cnidaria. These are exlusively marine organisms. They build internal and external skeletons. The extremely high strenght of coral skelton are suitable for making jewelry and other decorative items. Are threatened due to excessive extraction and exploitation. This paper presents a brief overview of the most important subclass of coral structure, focusing on the structure of the skeleton of soft and stony coral. In Croatia, there are 116 species of coral, some of which are more common soft corals. Stony corals build the largest biological structures on Earth - coral reef.
