Abstract

Protein-protein interactions play a major role in various biological mechanisms. Therefore, the identification and characterization of such interactions is the key to understanding cell biology. Yeast two-hybrid system is an inventive molecular genetic method which enables us to easily detect a great number of protein interactions in vivo. This paper offers an overview of basic principles of yeast two-hybrid system, its advantages and disadvantages, and some of the popular modifications and novel applications of the method.
