Abstract

According to the fossil records, there was a sudden appearance of various organizational groups and animal multicellularity 550 million years ago. Such a sudden evolutionary shift has never been recorded before the Cambrian period. It is believed to had lasted about 50 million years, which is a short time, geologically speaking, so this event is popularly called the Cambrian explosion. Goal of this seminar is to introduce number theories explaining the cause of this explosion such as the movement of tectonic plates, the changes in climate and atmospheric composition, mass extinctions, cosmic rays, stress and ecology. It is not posible to point out anyone of them as a single main cause, while each of these conditions had its part in creation of this unique event.
