Abstract

Trace fossils (or ichnofossils) are geological records of biological activity. Trace fossils contrast with body fossils, which are the fossilized remains of parts of organisms' bodies. Trace fossils may be impressions, burrows, borings (bioerosion), footprints, feeding marks and root cavities. The study of traces is called ichnology. In Croatia, trace fossils in Upper Carboniferous' rocks of Velebit Mt. (Ričice) can be found in several types. They can be divided in to Repichnia, Pascichnia, Domichnia groups. Some can be identified as a combination of two groups (for example Repichnia and Pascichnia).
