Abstract

Human origin and evolution can be traced from fossilized remains. With the development of the technology we can get detailed and more accurate insight into the origin of our species. Molecular methods give us insight into time of divergence of certain group and we can follow course of evolution to modern man. In this article I discuss the origin of species Homo sapiens through past, from the first representative of the genus Homo, Homo habilis, to modern man. Cranial capacity, usage of tools, weapons and cultural life significantly contributed to the evolution of our species. Main characteristic of the genus Homo through its evolution is large brain, small teeth, and robust body structure. Richard Leakey has discovered first representative of genus Homo in 1960, which has evolved from genus Australopithecus, and from its various evolutionary pathways was developed today's Homo sapiens.
