Abstract

Skeletochronology metod was used to process three taxa of green frogs, Pelophylax genus, caught during 2011 and 1012. It is assumed that these three taxa form a complex similar to Pelophylax kl. esculentus complex. However, since these taxa come from different parent species, it is assumed that they belong to a new and undetermined complex. Its conformation would provide an additional important research topic. Using skeletochronology method, 101 green frog femur was cross-sectioned and analysed for the existence of lines of arrested growth. To determine the growth difference between green frog taxa, body and femur length was compared with estimated age of frog individuals. Estimated age of oldest animals was 6 and youngest 1 years of age. Parental species, P. kurtmuelleri and P. shqipericus had an average age of 4 and 1,5 year, while the hybrid had an average age of 1,8 years. Differences in age structure may contribute to better distinguishing and describing taxa of this population as well as their better conservation.
