The flavonoids are heterogenous group of ubiquitous plant polyphenols that aboundant in human diet and are endowed with several biological activities, including immunomodulating and antioxidant activities. They are much abundant in fruit, vegetables and popular drinks, such as wine, beer and tea. Some plants exhibit therapeutic effects particulary because their extracts contain large amount of flavonoids. Propolis, also called «bee glue», is well known in traditional medicine and it also abounds with flavonoids. Intention of this review is to point out chemical properties and therapeutic effects of propolis and related flavonoids on allergy and allergic inflammatory deseases. Besides positive pharmacological properties, here are reviewed some cases of allergic reactions to propolis, within medical therapies applied to patients. Modern biomedical researches are focused on new medical therapies development. Experimentally approved pharmacological properties of flavonoids demonstrate their potential for developent of new medical therapies in the future.
