Abstract

Deep sea fishes inhabit one of the least explored areas of the planet Earth. About their behavior, nutrition and reproduction is very little known. Nevertheless, until now scientists have come to know about their basic characteristics and adjustment to the difficult conditions in which they occur. One of the most prominent is certainly bioluminiscence, characteristic of the organisms in the deeper layers of the ocean where no sunlight penetrates. There are also important physiological and morphological adaptations to the habitat that appears to be very poor in nutrients. In this paper is exposed the introduction to the biology and adaptations of the deep sea fishes and a brief overview of the most important species and description of their most prominent features.
