Abstract

In this reaserch dinamics of calcite growth in stalactite was determinated. Stalactite from Dubci location on Omiška Dinara, Croatia was used. The stalactite is at least lower Pleistocene in age. For the first time Friedman staining tehnique was used for the speleotheme research. The tehnique was shown useful for determining mineral composition of the sample, but direct visual mesuring of calcite generations proved superior for the structure determination. The speleotheme was also morphologicly described and paleoclimatic conditions of its growth were interpretated. Alltogether 14 different climatological cycles were determenated in stalactite growth and three layer-bounding erosion surfaces. There is regularity in distribution of white laminae characteristic for climate more suitable for calcite growth and dark laminate characteristic for climate less suitable for calcite growth.
