Abstract

Throughout the last ten years tourism has become individual, differential, segmented, environmentally conscious. Thus tourist trips have become shorter and often with an educational purpose. Thanks to its advantageous geo-traffic position, Zagreb is now a popular tourist destination. Monuments and institutions of national importance are located in Zagreb. As a cultural, economic, art and science centre of Croatia, it plays the lead role in Croatian tourism. The most important monuments and institutions, are concentrated in the Upper town which is important pull factor in the city's tourism. Along with traditional heritage and symbolic resource, Upper town is becoming more and more attractive because of its cultural and entertainment events. Research includes analysis of tourist elements in Upper town, field research and questionnaires with the residents of Zagreb. The purpose of this thesis is to present aspects of the tourist attractions in the narrow historical core of Upper town and with that to emphasize its importance Zagreb's tourism.
