Abstract

Considering the pronounced spatial dimension that is associated with second homes, the need for a geographic research/study of this phenomenon is clear. The goal of this research would show us how did the process of owning a second home started, it would define its current state, project its future development but it would also give us a review of the various influences that it has on the other processes in the area and on the area itself. Temporarily change of place of residence is common feature for second homes owners and health tourists as their prime motive is to change their place of residence in favour of a better climate or health baths that provide medical prevention, cure or rehabilitation. Weekend vacationing research in continental Croatia doesn't get enough attention, and there are no scientific studies about the connection between certain forms of tourism (e.g. health tourism) and owning a second home. The main goal of this thesis is to study the impact of the presence of spas as an attraction factor in second house owning. Second goal is to analyze the development and features of second home as a phenomenon that encompasses all occurrences and processes connected to weekend houses i.e. all housing units that are used for rest and recreation, focusing mainly on the area of Hrvatsko zagorje and its thermal tourism.
