Seagrass Posidonia oceanica (L.) Delile is an endemic species in the Mediterranean Sea as well as in the Adriatic. Posidonia beds are characterized by high primary production and many organisms find food and shelter here. Some of the most common sessile organisms in the epiphytic communities of Posidonia meadows are bryozoans (Bryozoa). Bryozoans are sampled within Posidonia meadows in September 1998 in the area of the Cape of Mavrovo and Cape South Arat on Island Silba and the bay area Veli Rat on Dugi otok in October 2002. The basic leaf biometry of Posidonia was also made in order to determine the status of this habitat. A total of 55 species of bryozoans were found, 39 species on Silba and 38 species in the waters of the Dugi otok. Sørensen's method reveals the similarity in species composition of bryozoans between these two areas. The most frequently reported species of bryozoans on Island Silba were Electra posidoniae and Haplopoma impressum, and on Dugi otoka were Electra monostachys, Lichenopora sp., Patinella radiata and Schizomavella gautieri. Species composition of bryozoans in Posidonia in the researched area is different from the composition of species recorded in other seagrass meadows elsewhere in the Mediterranean, which can be associated with geographic distances. Results of the biometry of Posidonia leafs showed that studied meadows on Silba and Dugi otok are in favorable condition.
