Abstract

Teacher Education and Development Study in Mathematics (TEDS - M) is an international comparative study on students who are studying teachers study and teaching of mathematics, which aims to determine to what extent they are prepared to teach mathematics in lower or higher grades. The aim of this research is to determine the variation in the nature of the program of initial education of primary teachers and mathematics teachers within participating countries and their impact on students mathematical achievement. TEDS - M research is based on the results of a number of international comparative external evaluationS of mathematical achievement of students in primary and secondary schools (eg. TIMMS) conducted by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA). The aim of this paper is to present the methodology and design of the TEDS - M research and thoroughly analyze selected publicly available questions and tasks set respondents in this survey, which determines the level of their mathematical and methodological knowledge.
