Abstract

Iron ore occurrences are situated on the south-eastern slopes of the Medvednica Mountain. A 6 km long ore zone, striking from Pustodol to Tisova Peć, contains ten ore outcrops. Majority of ore outcrops is located in first 1.5 km of ore zone between Adolfovac and Bliznec creek. Iron ore occurrences are SEDEX-type ore deposit and genetically are bounded to the basic volcanogenic-sedimentary series of Medvednica Mountain. Host rocks are orthometamorphic rocks which were metamorphosed in greenschists during Cretaceous period (t=350-400C i p=3-3,5 kbar). The main ore minerals are hematite, magnetite and manganese minerals which are accompanied by quartz, chlorite, leptochlorite, epidote and other minerals. Supposed age of the Mt. Medvednica iron deposits is Triassic age.
