Abstract

Key terms in this diploma thesis are surfaces and buildings described by well known surfaces. The surfaces were investigated based on differential geometry. We noticed that the most significant surfaces used in construction, particularly in sports construction, are ruled surfaces which are also the simplest one for building any part of sports facilities. Translational surfaces are widely applied, particularly superelipsoids and, in particular, surfaces obtained by rotating a superellipse. We have recently encountered also surfaces of more and more combinations that appear in architecture.
